This morning I got the opportunity to talk about @onewaterrace at @svt morgonstudio⬆️
I’m feeling better for each day but the past week has been quite a journey. Lots of emotions and feelings together with an exhausted body.
Daniel has already shared the facts about what happened and to summarize; I caught a cold a week before start. It got up and down the last days but my feeling at the start line was that I was healthy and ready to race.
Unfortunately my cold had affected one of my lungs and during the race water started to accumulate in it and made it difficult to oxygenate my body. We were not aware of this during the race but I could feel early on in the race that my body did not respond as usual. I kept believing that it would soon feel better but it just got worse. I felt the first symptoms on land. As I could not oxygenate my legs properly they got stiff and I felt overheated. In the water it felt like I had lactic acid in my upper body and later on into the race I had problems to breath while swimming and I was breathing like I did max intervals while I was walking.
I normally push hard when I race. That’s my strength. But this time my effort did not pay back. I had good energy levels, my body temperature was fine and we did everything right on the course but my problems made it impossible to continue.
Im grateful to race with three of the physically strongest persons I know but they are not only incredibly strong, they are also great persons. We have talked alot after the race and figuring out how we can direct our feelings into something positive for the future. We are all very motivated to get back, restart the race and finish our business.

Tyvärr blev vi tvungna att bryta @onewaterrace
Förstår om bilderna på livesändningen inatt kan ha upplevt som extrema, men vi är vana att hantera dippar då vi pressar oss på långa tävlingar. Kristin fick i sig vätska och energi hela tiden trots kraftigt illamående, hennes kroppstemperatur var hela tiden på 37-39 grader (hon bar en tempsensor för GIH’s räkning under loppet som vi fick avläsningarna på) så alla förutsättningar fanns för att dippen snabbt borde vänt.

Men den här gången upplevde vi att Kristin hade problem med andning och syresättning som blev värre under tävlingens gång. Problemen startade efter 6-7 timmars tävlande och försämrades. Även om hon var varm var läpparna blåa och stundvis svårt att andas. Tillslut upplevde hon mjölksyra bara av att gå oavsett hur mycket eller hårt hon andades. Hon pressade sig helt galet hårt för att vi skulle röra oss framåt. Efter midnatt tog vi beslut att hoppa ner i tältet för att försöka återhämta men symptomen blev då värre. Vi tog ett gemensamt beslut att tillkalla läkare för undersökning. De konstaterade syresättning på 87% och vattenrassel i ena lungan. De har nu behandlat henne och tryckt bort vätskan ut ur lungan och Kristin mår ok nu.
Vätskeansamling kan det bli när man andas mycket nära vattenytan och lungan har blivit påverkad av exempelvis en tidigare förkylning. Hon blev tyvärr förkyld en vecka innan loppet men har ingen infektion i kroppen just nu.
